Love began with God’s spoken word.
It’s very essence was birthed when God spoke it into existence.
But, somewhere between creating the celestial bodies and great valleys on earth, our Father noticed a need.
We are created in the image of likeness of God, and yet our spiritual being desires for human connection.
This is what the ancient Greeks called: “Philia” love.
We are designed for companionship.
Cultivating bonds with those around us is part of our very DNA.
Our very creator is a relational being and the heart of our Father desires to see his offspring extend brotherly love towards each other.
The yearning for interaction pulses through our veins. To deny yourself of Philia love is to deny the beauty of relationship.
Philia love builds trust. Philia love allows us to be vulnerable with our friends.
The gift of Philia love creates an alliance SO STRONG, not even the gates of Hades could prevail against it.
The Benefits of Brotherly Affection
- It creates accountability: “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another,” (Proverbs 27:17, ESV).
- It Fosters Encouragement: “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing,” (I Thessalonians 5:11, ESV).
- It Unifies People from All Walks of Life: “For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them,” (Matthew 18:20, ESV).
In the midst of chaos, may we be peacemakers.
In the middle of our storms, let us offer words of affirmation fashioned from Philia love, and may we extend an outstretched hand to those in need.
May our own Creator, provoke in us enough Philia love to form unbreakable bonds of friendship. This beloved, pleases the heart of God.
